William DYMENT (1811-1884)

William DYMENT [135], son of William DYMENT (1787-1866) [132] and Ann FOLLAND (1785?-1857) [159], was born in 1811 in Beaford, Devon. He was baptised on 17 February 1811 in Beaford. He married Mary BLACKMORE [2372] on 28 February 1837 at St Mary in High Bickington, Devon. He married Sarah BALE [23] on 1 September 1839 in Abbotsham, Devon. William DIMOND made a mark, he was of full age a widower and Labourer from Abbotsham. His father was William DIMOND a labourer. Sarah made a mark, she was of full age, a spinster from Lendon in Abbotsham. Her father was Salathiel BALE who was a Labourer. The marriage was witnessed by James BALE, who made his mark, and William GLOVER. William appeared in the census on 6 June 1841 in Abbotsham. William DIAMOND was between 25 and 30, an Ag Lab born in the county. Living with wife Sarah, son Samuel and Elizabeth WIND. We do not know where or if Elizabeth fits into the family. On 6 June 1841 William was an agricultural labourer. He appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Biberry Cottage in Bideford, Devon. William DYMONT was 44, a farm labourer from Highbickington. Living with his wife Sarah and children Samuel, Ann, Joseph, William and Susanna. William should be from Beaford and aged 40 but wife and children are consistant with other Censuses. On 30 March 1851 William was a farm labourer. On 7 April 1861 he was a farm labourer. He appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Oxallen in Alverdiscott, Devon. William DIAMOND was a 50 year old, Farm Labourer from St Giles itw. Living with wife Sarah and daughter Susanna and son, John, His son Samuel was next door. William appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 at 58 Weddon St in Bideford. William DYMOND was 60, a mole catcher from Beaford. His wife Sarah, grand daughter Annie and nephew Robert were living with him. They also had 3 railway labourers boarding with them. None of their children were living with them. Anne was the daughter of Samuel and Robert the illigitimate son of William's sister Susan. On 2 April 1871 William was a mole catcher. He appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 at Higher Meddon St in Bideford. William DYMOND was 70, a general labourer from Beaford. Living with his wife Sarah and grand daughters, Annie DYMOND, Samuel's daughter and Rosa DYMOND whose parents have yet to be identified. They also had a 70 year old boarder. On 3 April 1881 William was a general labourer. He died of Paralysis 18years bed sores on 12 April 1884 in Bideford. Daughter Annie HOOPER of the same address was present at death.

 

Mary BLACKMORE [2372], daughter of James BLACKMORE (1792-bef1851) [5971] and Elizabeth PINCOMBE (1790- ) [5972], was born in 1813 in High Bickington. She was baptised on 25 April 1813 at St Mary in High Bickington. She died Q1 1839 in High Bickington. She was buried on 26 February 1839 in High Bickington.

 

Sarah BALE [23], daughter of Salathiel BALE (1775?-1864) [305] and Mary JONES (1774?-1855) [352], was born in 1817 in Abbotsham. The first known event is her baptism. Sarah was baptised on 31 August 1817 in Abbotsham. Sarah the daughter of Salathiel & Mary BALE of West Cott, Abbotsham. Her father was a Husbandman. Sarah appeared in the census on 6 June 1841 in Abbotsham. Sarah DIAMOND was 24 and born in the county. She was with husband William son Samuel and Elizabeth WARDE, whom we have not identified. Sarah appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Biberry Cottage in Bideford. Sarah was 30 from Abbotsham, the wife of William DYMONT. Living with their children Samuel, Ann, Joseph, William and Susanna. Sarah appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Oxallen in Alverdiscott. Sarah was the wife of William DIAMOND a Farm Labourer. She was 44 from Abbotsham. Their children Susanna and John where living with them. Sarah appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 at 58 Weddon St in Bideford. Sarah was 58 from Abbotsham, the wife of William. None of their children were living with them but grand daughter Annie and nephew Robert were. They also had 3 railway labourers boarding with them. Sarah appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 at Higher Meddon St in Bideford. Sarah DYMOND at 64 was the wife of William. She came form Abbotsham. Living with them were Annie DYMOND, Samuel's daughter and Rosa a grand daughter who has yet to be identified. They also had a 70 year old boarder. Sarah appeared in the census on 5 April 1891 at 7 Silver Street in Bideford. Sarah DYMOND 78 a widow from Abbotsham was with granddaughters Rosa DYMOND and Beatrice E HOOPER. Sarah died of Senile decay, asthenia (loss of strength) on 6 September 1898 in Bideford. She and William DYMENT had the following children:

 

Samuel DYMENT (1840- ) [122]. Samuel was born in 1840 in Abbotsham. He was baptised on 13 September 1840 in Abbotsham. He appeared in the census on 6 June 1841 in Abbotsham. Samuel DIAMOND 1 was with parents. Samuel appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Biberry Cottage in Bideford. Samuel DYMONT 11 from Bideford was originally given as a Sunday Scholar but this was later crossed out. Samuel married Susanna CLEMENT [22] Q4 1859 at Prob- Northam in Bideford District, Devon. He appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Oxallen in Alverdiscott. Samual DIAMOND was the head of the household, a 20 year old Farm Labourer from Habbessham, which should be Abbotsham, Devon. He was with his wife Susanna and daughter Ann living next door to his parents. Samuel was a farm labourer.

Anne DYMENT (1843- ) [39]. Anne was born in 1843 in Abbotsham. The first known event is her baptism. Anne was baptised on 22 January 1843 in Abbotsham. She appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Biberry Cottage in Bideford. Ann DYMONT was 8 a Sunday Scholar from Devon living with parents. Sunday-Scholar was ruled though. Anne appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Torridge St in Bideford. Ann DIAMOND 18 was a House Servant from Abbotsham. She was working for and living with William HAMMETT, a Sail maker master employing 2 men and 4 boys and his family (wife, 2 sons and niece). Ann DIAMOND was 18 from Abbotsham, Devon, house servant to William HAMMETT a sail maker master employing 2 men and 4 boys. He was living with his wife, 2 sons and a niece. Anne married William HOOPER [4977] in 1869 (estimated). She appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 at 15 Union St in Bideford. Annie HOOPER 35 from Abbotsham with husband William and daughter Minie Eda. William WAKLEY 29 a Boot & Shoe Maker from Bideford and his family were in the same house. Anne appeared in the census on 5 April 1891 at 47 48, 49 Fore St Boarding House in Ilfracombe, Devon. Annie HOOPER 42 a widow was the Cook at a boarding house. She was from Abbotsham. The head of the household was Mary A LEWIS 42 single Boarding House Keeper. They had Mary J HILL 60 a widow Needlewoman Domestic Servant. The rest of the staff were single, a kitchen maid, 3 housemaids, pantry maid, errand girl (Maud HOOPER 12) and laundry maid. There was one boarder on this shedule and there was a family of NUTTINGS, mother and 7 children living a the same address on the next shedule.

Joseph DYMENT (1845-1911) [86]. Joseph was born on 1 July 1845 in Abbotsham. He was baptised on 20 July 1845 in Abbotsham. He appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Biberry Cottage in Bideford. Living with parents. He was a Sunday scholar, but apparently this didn't count and it was crossed out. Joseph appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Abbotsham Village in Abbotsham. Joseph DIAMOND 17 an Agricultural Servant from Abbotsham was living with his uncle Salathiel BALE. In 1861 Joseph was an agricultural servant in Abbotsham. He appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 in Laleston, Glamorgan. Joseph DYMENT 23 an Ag Lab from Bidford was boarding with Elizabeth WILLIAMS 32 who was formerly a domestic servant. Also in the household was Mary WILLIAMS 83 the imbecile aunt of Elizabeth, Thomas THOMAS 34 a Mason and also a Boarder, and Henry RICHARD 30 an Ag Lab visiting from Bidford. Joseph married Hannah THOMAS [157] on 17 June 1872 at Register office in Bridgend, Glamorgan. Joseph DIMENT 23 a bachelor and labourer in the iron works, the son of William DIMENT a greengrocer married Hannah THOMAS 22 a spinster the daughter of Robert Thomas a shoemaker. Hannah signed but Joseph made his mark. The witnesses were Thomas JONES and Margaret REES. Joseph appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 at Bridgend Rd, Newcastle Higher in Aberkenfig, Glamorgan. Joseph DIMENT, 31, was a labourer in the Ironworks. He was from Abbsham which should be Abbotsham. Living with wife Hannah and children Lousia and William. Joseph married Jane DAVIES [27] on 27 June 1888 at Hope Baptist Chapel, Queen St. in Bridgend. Joseph DIMENT 40 a widower Engine Driver living in Tynewydd, the son of William DIMENT a Farm Labourer who had deceased married Jane DAVIES 33 a spinster also living in Tynewydd, the daughter of William DAVIES a coker. The witnesses were William RICHARDS and Mary THOMAS. Joseph appeared in the census on 5 April 1891 at 25 Fronwen Row in Ogmore Vale, Glamorgan. Joseph DYMENT 43 an Engineer ED Stationary from Devon spoke only English. The parish, town or village was not given. He was probably a driver of a stationary engine, maybe a winding engine or engine used for haulage at a local colliery. His wife Jane spoke Welsh. Living with them were, Joseph's son by previous marriage William, Jane's illegitimate son David, now using the surname DYMENT, and their daughter Elizabeth. William spoke both English and Welsh; David was Welsh speaking as was one year old Elizabeth! Joseph appeared in the census on 31 March 1901 at Dunraven Ter, Ogmore in Ogmore Vale. Joseph DEMENT 50 a Coal Miner Hewer Worker from Bridgeford spoke English only. He was with his wife Jane, her son David and their children Elizabeth and John. In 1901 Joseph was a coal miner. Wyndham Collery involved in pit accident with winder and crippled? FTM. Joseph died in October 1911 in Ogmore Vale. He was buried on 25 October 1911 in Ogmore Vale.

William Henry DYMENT (1848- ) [149]. William was born in 1848 in Abbotsham. He was baptised on 30 April 1848 in Abbotsham. He appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Biberry Cottage in Bideford. William DYMONT 3 a Sunday Scholar from Bideford was with his parents. William was a farm labourer.

Susanna DYMENT (1850- ) [128]. Susanna was born Q2 1850 in Bideford. She appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Biberry Cottage in Bideford. Living with parents. Susanna appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Oxallen in Alverdiscott. Susanna DIAMOND was 10 year old Scholar from Bideford, Devon, living with her parents. Susanna appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 at 4 Palmer’s Buildings, Meddon St in Bideford. Susan DYMOND 20 a Domestic Servant from Bideford was with Annie HOOPER, a Gloveress. Annie's husband was absent but she had a 1 year old daughter at home.

John DYMENT (1853- ) [81]. John was born Q2 1853 in Bideford. He appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Oxallen in Alverdiscott. John was a 8 year old scholar from Bideford, Devon living with his parents. John married Selina SPRATT [615] Q2 1876 at Prob- Bideford in Bideford District. He appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 at Ford in Alwington, Devon. John DYMOND 25 a General Labourer from Bideford was with his wife Selina and daughter Sarah J. next door to the Wesleyian Chapel in the hamlet of Ford. John appeared in the census on 5 April 1891 at 2 Pitt Lane in Bideford. John DYMOND 37 was employed as a general labourer. Born in Bideford he was living with wife Selina and daughters Edith and Ethel. John appeared in the census on 31 March 1901 at 4 North Road in Bideford. John DYMOND 45 a General Labourer from Bideford was with his wife and daughters: Edith, Ethel and Nellie.
