He was a carpenter. The marriage was witnessed by two of the GOODLAKE ladies. Was Elizabeth a ladies maid to the GOODLAKE family who were the local gentry at Letcombe? The Goodlake Arms is a pub at East Challow. The GOODLAKEs were justices of the Peace at Wantage |

He was left £5 by his grandfather to apprentice him to a trade and later served an apprenticeship as a carpenter with John Roach for 7 years in Brickleton in Berks.
