Charles PRATT (1817-1878)

      Photograph by Kevin McMullin March 2005 St Nicholas Warwick Once called the “Low Church” as it was down hill from St Mary's or the “High Church”. It is built on the site of a Norman church which may have replaced an even older church. The tower was causing concern by the mid 18th century and was taken down A local architect Thomas JOHNSON rebuilt it to his own design. Charles PRATT was Parish Clerk here 1860-1893 Parish Clerk pre 1907- "They should be at least 20 years old. Known to the parson as a man of honest conversation and sufficient for his reading, writing and competant skill in singing" Canon 91 (1603). Functions - reading the lessons and epistles, singing in the choir, giving out the hymms, leading the responses, serving at the altar and other like duties, opening of the church, ringing the bell, digging graves if there be no sexton.    
 

Charles PRATT [5252], son of John PRATT (1771-1856) [5261] and Elizabeth KIBLER (1772?-1851) [5262], was born in 1817 in Warwick, Warwickshire. He was baptised on 31 August 1817 at St Nicholas in Warwick. He appeared in the census on 6 June 1841 at Bridge End in Warwick. Charles PRATT 20 a Shoe Maker born in county was with parents. From 1841 to 1851 Charles was a Shoemaker. He married Ann STANDLEY [5253] on 17 April 1843 at St Nicholas in Warwick. He appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Bridge End, Warwick St Nicholas. in Warwick. Charles PRATT 32 a Cordwainer from Warwick was living with his parents. He was with his wife Ann and children Elizabeth Ann, Harriet, John and Joseph. From April 1851 to 1854 Charles was a Sexton. From 1858 to 1871 he was a letter carrier. He appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Low Church Street in Warwick. Charles PRATT 43 a Parish Clerk from Warwick was with his wife Ann, children Elizabeth, John, Joseph, Charles and George and nephew William. In 1861 Charles was a Parish Clerk. He appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 at 24 St Nicholas Church St. in Warwick. Charles PRATT 53 a Post Office Messenger from Warwick was with his wife Ann, children Joseph, Charles, George and William, and granddaughter Jane PRATT. Jane was the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth who had since married but not to Jane's father. Charles died in November 1878 in Warwick. He was buried on 27 November 1879 in Warwick.

 

Ann STANDLEY [5253], daughter of Joseph STANDLEY (1800-1844) [5431] and Elizabeth TIMMS (1801-1863) [5439], was born in 1823 in Warwick. She was baptised on 4 September 1823 at St Nicholas in Warwick. She appeared in the census on 6 June 1841 at Leam House, Myton in Warwick. Ann STANLEY 15 was a Female Servant to William FIELD 70 a Dissenting Minister. Mary FIELD 55 was an Instructress of young with Laura 25 and Alice 20 as Assistants. They had 10 pupils a male servant and 4 female servants incuding Ann. Ann appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Bridge End, Warwick St Nicholas. in Warwick. Ann PRATT 27 from Warwick was living with her parents in law. She was with her husband Charles and children Elizabeth Ann, Harriet, John and Joseph. Ann appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Low Church Street in Warwick. Ann PRATT 37 from Warwick was with husband Charles and children Elizabeth, John, Joseph, Charles and George. Ann appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 at 24 St Nicholas Church St. in Warwick. Ann PRATT 47 from Warwick was with her husband Charles, children Joseph, Charles, George and William, and granddaughter Jane PRATT. Jane was the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth. Ann died of Liver disease & Phthisis <TB> 3 months Certified on 12 May 1873 in Warwick. Ellen Hopkins who was living at 35 St Nicholas Church Street was present at the death. We have not established any link with the family. Ann was buried on 17 May 1873 in Warwick. She and Charles PRATT had the following children:

 

Elizabeth Ann PRATT (1844-1896) [5255]. Elizabeth was born Q1 1844 in Warwick. She was baptised on 28 July 1844 at St Nicholas in Warwick. She appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Bridge End, Warwick St Nicholas. in Warwick. Elizabeth Ann PRATT 6 a Scholar from Warwick was with parents and grandparents. In 1860 Elizabeth was a dressmaker. She appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Low Church Street in Warwick. Elizabeth Ann PRATT 17 a Dress Maker from Warwick was with parents. Elizabeth married Albert HERITAGE [5291] on 19 December 1869 at St Nicholas in Warwick. She appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 at 6 Bridge End, St Nicholas in Warwick. Elizabeth Ann HERITAGE 28 a Labourer's Wife from Warwick was with her husband Albert and son Charles James. Elizabeth appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 at 3a Packmores St., Packmores in Warwick. Elizabeth HERITAGE 39 a Laundress from Warwick and her daughter Sarah A. were lodging with Thomas BROMAGE. Her husband Albert and son Charles were in the nearby workhouse. Elizabeth died Q2 1896 in Warwick District, Warwickshire.

Harriet PRATT (1846- ) [5256]. Harriet was born in 1846 in Warwick. She was baptised on 29 March 1846 at St Nicholas in Warwick. She appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Bridge End, Warwick St Nicholas. in Warwick. Harriet PRATT 5 a Scholar from Warwick was with parents and grandparents. Harriet appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at St Mary in Warwick. She married Edward GILES [5293] on 24 December 1865 at St Nicholas in Warwick. She appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 at St George in Birmingham, Warwickshire. Harriett GILES 25 from Warwick was with her husband Edward and children Albert E and Ann Elizabeth. Harriet appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 at 13 Court 4 House Northwood St in Birmingham. Harriet GILES at 35 was a widowed Linen Button Carder from Warwick with children Albert, Annie, Amy, Frederic, Esther and Edward and a lodger Ann LORTON. On 3 April 1881 Harriet was a linen button carder.

John Thomas PRATT (1849-1881) [5257]. John was born Q2 1849 in Warwick. He was baptised on 20 April 1849 at St Nicholas in Warwick. He appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Bridge End, Warwick St Nicholas. in Warwick. John Thomas PRATT 2 was with parents and grandparents. John appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Low Church Street in Warwick. John T. PRATT 12 from Warwick was with parents. John married Elizabeth SIMONDS [5296] Q2 1868 in Warwick District. He appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 at 16 Charles St in Leamington, Warwickshire. John PRATT 22 a Labourer from Warwick was with his wife Elizabeth and daughter Louisa. John died in January 1881 in Warwick. He was buried on 13 January 1881 in Warwick.

Joseph PRATT (1850-1890) [5258]. Joseph was born in December 1850 in Warwick. He appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 at Bridge End, Warwick St Nicholas. in Warwick. Joseph PRATT 3 was with parents and grandparents. Joseph was baptised on 27 April 1851 at St Nicholas in Warwick. He appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Low Church Street in Warwick. Joseph PRATT 10 from Warwick was with parents. Joseph appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 at 24 St Nicholas Church St. in Warwick. Joseph PRATT 20 a General Lab from Warwick was with parents. Joseph married Susanna BEERS [5292] on 25 December 1871 at St Nicholas in Warwick. He appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 at 10 New Road in Warwick. Joseph PRATT 30 a General Labourer from Warwick was with wife Susan and children Minnie and Charles. Joseph died in October 1890 in Warwick. He was buried on 15 October 1890 in Warwick.

Louisa PRATT (1854- ) [5259]. Louisa was born in 1854 in Warwick. She was baptised on 5 February 1854 at St Nicholas in Warwick. She appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Hooper St in Birmingham. Lousia PRATT 7 a Scholar from Warwick was with her cousin William PRATT and his family. Louisa appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 in Shrewley, Warwickshire. Louisa PRATT 18 was living as general servant with Josiah MORRIS 27 who was a butcher. He had a wife and 6 month old son.

Charles Edward PRATT (1858-1912) [5260]. Charles was born in 1858 in Warwick. He was baptised on 10 January 1858 at St Nicholas in Warwick. He appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Low Church Street in Warwick. Charles PRATT 3 from Warwick was with parents. Charles appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 at 24 St Nicholas Church St. in Warwick. Charles PRATT 13 a Scholar from Warwick was with parents. Charles married Harriet WHITEHOUSE [5416] Q2 1877 in Warwick District. He appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 at 44 Friar St in Warwick. Chas.E. PRATT 25 a Railway Porter from St Nicholas, Warwick was with his wife Harriett and children Walter and Florence. His brother William was living with him. In 1881 Charles was a Railway Porter. He appeared in the census on 5 April 1891 at 149 Montague Road in Harborne, Staffordshire. Charles E PRATT 36 a Labourer at Brewery from Warwick was with wife Harriet and children Walter, Florence and Frances. Charles appeared in the census on 31 March 1901 at 15 Paradise St Packmores in Warwick. Charles E PRATT 48 a General Labourer Worker from Warwick was with his wife Harriet and children Walter E, Frances A and Harry. Charles died in November 1912 in Warwick. He was buried on 27 November 1912 in Warwick.

George Guy PRATT (1860-1893) [1214]. George was born on 27 November 1860 in Warwick. He was baptised on 3 March 1861 at St Nicholas in Warwick. He appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 at Low Church Street in Warwick. George PRATT 4 months from Warwick was with parents. George appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 at 24 St Nicholas Church St. in Warwick. George PRATT 10 a Scholar from Warwick was with parents. George married Kate CHAMBERS [1215] on 25 December 1879 at St Mathias in Lozells, Birmingham. He appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 at 74 Hatchett St in Birmingham. George PRATT 21 a Brass Tube Turner from St Nicholas, Warwick and his wife Kate a Brass Polisher were lodging with Thomas and Sarah HATTON who were also working with brass. On 3 April 1881 George was a Brass Tube Turner. He appeared in the census on 5 April 1891 at 3 Ct Hse 8 Pritchett St. in Birmingham. George PRATT 29 was employed as a Brass Polisher. He was born in Birmingham and was living with wife Kate and children; Lilly, Charles, Kate and John. On 5 April 1891 George was a Brass Polisher. He died of Acute lobal pneumonia on 26 April 1893 in Birmingham.

William PRATT (1864- ) [5290]. William was born in 1864 in Warwick. He was baptised on 2 October 1864 at St Nicholas in Warwick. He appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 at 24 St Nicholas Church St. in Warwick. William PRATT 5 a Scholar from Warwick was with parents. William appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 at 44 Friar St in Warwick. William PRATT 16 a domestic servant out of place from St Mary, Warwick was living with his brother Charles and his family.

James PRATT (1867-1869) [5430]. James was born in April 1867 in Warwick. He was baptised on 22 April 1867 at St Nicholas in Warwick. James was baptised privately probably because he was poorly. He recovered and was received publicly into the church on Sep 29. James died in January 1869 in Warwick. He was buried on 1 February 1869 in Warwick.
